Willow Avenue, Tok, Alaska

Social distancing is having quite an effect on the housing market. Coincidentally, I watched an episode of Building Alaska, and a family was building a vacation cabin in Chicken, Alaska. They wanted to be near a creek where they could pan for gold. If you want to take social distancing to the pro level, a gold-mining cabin in Chicken, Alaska might be just the ticket.

There were no properties for sale in Chicken, or nearby Jack Wade or Little Gold, but Tok, Alaska came through for us. This house knows that after a long day of working from home panning for gold, you're ready for some amenities.

Amenities like a sauna, steam shower, and hot tub...

...a 4 car garage for all of your all-terrain toys...

...and a large, bright kitchen with Corian counters trimmed in gold:

The upstairs living room is roomy enough for a crew:

Here's how we could give everyone a seat:

There's even a bar where you toast your gold-panning success --or drink away your sorrow, depending:

The bar could look a little more prospector-ish like so:

This house also has a downstairs living room with slot machines, but it's not pictured in the listing. The dining room is shown, though:

It needs a little more rugged charm, too:

The house was built in 1979, has 8,500 square feet, and 6 bedrooms and 6 baths. None of the bedrooms are pictured in the listing either, but I really want one of them to someday look like this:

If you're saying to yourself that you'd really rather rough it and get the true Chicken family experience, this property has you covered with its own log cabin:

Tok is the "Gateway to Alaska" as you cross the Canadian border on the Alaska Highway.

It provides a great representation of Alaska with sled dog racing, hiking in the Tok River Valley, playing in Mukluk Land park, flightseeing over the Wrangle Mountains, and of course, offering gold panning opportunities in nearby Chicken.

The listing is here.  The "Chicken or Bust" episode of Building Alaska is here.
