Baker Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia

You know what wouldn't be a fun job? Being the person responsible for choosing the Color of the Year during a pandemic.

It seems most paint companies took "shelter in place" seriously and decided to go with cave colors. Behr has picked Canyon Dusk, Rustoleum chose Satin Paprika, Sherwin Williams says Urbane Bronze, and Farrow and Ball cuts straight to the chase with Deep Reddish Brown.

Some companies, though, are allowing us a glimpse of the sky from our shelters. Benjamin Moore picked Aegean Teal, Minwax choose Vintage Blue, and Farrow and Ball also likes "clean and timeless blues."

However, Pantone, the leader of the color pack, decided to be more pandemic-poetic with their colors. "The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude." {source}

This circa 1900 home in Oglethorpe, Georgia decided to play it safe and follow everyone's color advice. There's a little gray, a little blue, and a dash of paprika...

...paired with a yellow that isn't so literally illuminating as Illuminating but still gets its cheerful point across:

The pretty yellow dining room below caught my eye with its carved fireplace surround:

I would love to see it furnished like this, to really play up its plaster and its golden glow:

Here's another angle of the room so that you can see how much space we have to play with:

The house has 2,172 square feet. The two bedrooms and two bathrooms are on the other side of the foyer hall from the dining and living rooms.

More yellow and gray. These sellers are on top of 2021 color trends.

Oglethorpe is named for James Edward Oglethorpe, who founded the colony of Georgia in 1732 under a grant from King George II. He was a bit of a trendsetter himself, creating a home for the "unemployed and unemployable," banning slavery and alcohol, and negotiating with Native Americans (albeit to have an ally against the Spanish). Oglethorpe is still an agricultural community and has a thriving farmer's market

I'm betting that farmer's market is a good place to get those beautiful illuminating orchids and an enduring plant to place in your shower stall.
