Go Home Lake, Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada
It may seem too early in the year to start featuring lakehouses, but House and Home magazine has gotten a jump on that summer issue favorite. The pretty Muskoka cottage they chose for April's Home of the Month inspired me to find a home to match with it.
This is the view of the inspiration house from its spot on Lake Joseph. The two story boathouse is just as impressive as the main house!
Our house match below is only 28 kilometers south of it. It's on Go Home Lake, just inland from the eastern shore of Georgian Bay.
The house is somewhere between 51 and 99 years old, according to the listing. (I'm guessing the younger end of that range.)
We can still get ideas for changing the details.
I'm not sure why the doors are two different colors, but that's an easy fix. I'm more interested in the interiors, because this living room and great stone fireplace...
...is already taking design cues from our inspiration house, below:
{Architects: Foreshew Design Associates, Designer: Brittaney Elgner, Olly + Em}
Meanwhile, the other side of the room that's open to the kitchen and dining area...
...could easily look just as stunning as the inspiration photo, below:
While the kitchen doesn't match the one in our inspiration house quite as well...
Like in the inspiration house, the master bedroom faces the lake.
The inspiration house just has a quieter palette, below:
Those two lounger chairs would look pretty great over by the side window in our listing house, below:
The house has three bedrooms and one bathroom in somewhere between 1,500 to 2,000 square feet. (If you don't care about the exact age of the house, you don't probably don't care about its size either.)
Bedrooms two and three are very nice as they are...
...but I'll show you the inspiration house's bedroom with them anyway:
The listing house's bathroom may have everything you need...
...but with the inspiration house's soaker tub under the window, it would have everything you want:
The property also includes a two bedroom bunkie:
The precariously balanced bucket over the beds makes me a little nervous.
There's also an outbuilding labeled as an art studio:
And one more bonus building for play or storage:
Basically there are just plenty of places to sit...
...and enjoy Go Home Lake.
You get to enjoy it every time you come home, because the house is only accessible by boat. It's a ten minute ride from the marina.
This sounds a little apocryphal, but Go Home Lake was apparently named when fur traders would take the route through Go Home Bay and lake to go home after loading their furs on steamships at the bay.

Another story suggests it's from the indigenous people indicating where they would spend their winters.
I'm just surprised there aren't more real estate listings that take advantage of the appropriate name. I (and AI) did it for them:
If you want to discover your true place to go home, the listing is here.
