Washington School, Coldwater Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana
There are a lot of listings on the market where the realtor urges you to "use your imagination!" This 1879 schoolhouse in Fort Wayne, Indiana is one of them. If I had been a student here, I would have spent math class daydreaming about what the school would like if I lived there.
The fact that it's on a busy corner lot near both commercial and residential properties exponentially doubles the makeover possibilities. (At least I think it does. I was daydreaming during math.)
It was converted into a residence around 1978.
The first picture shows that it needs further renovations, but that some of the original features are still intact.
It's easy to imagine this space as a sunny living room...
or, if it were mine, the neighborhood indie bookstore:
Meanwhile, this dining area below...
...would be the perfect place for the kids' section, like this:
The after images are AI generated with a little tweaking from me. Left on its own, AI went a little crazy with the lanterns and with the "Staff Picks" signs.
The kitchen is roomy and could work well for either a private home or a retail space:
I paired it with this renovated kitchen in a similar one-room schoolhouse:
This dining area
It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,846 square feet.
The property sits on almost an acre lot.
It needs a lot of attention, but it definitely has the potential to be well worth it.
The listing is here.
Meanwhile, I've been busy daydreaming and crafting a few projects of my own. My latest miniature sets are Claude Monet's Giverny studio and kitchen and the farmhouse from the movie Christmas in Connecticut. While I'm at it, I'm also decorating my set of Lucy's country house for the holidays -- it's another Christmas in Connecticut, after all.
Details in the YouTube video! It should be ready tomorrow morning and I'll link it then.
